Best Bra Contest History
After losing a friend to breast cancer who was only 31 years old, one of our Club’s members decided she needed to do something to honor her friend and help those affected by breast cancer. After hearing of an event where decorated bras were hung from the ceiling of a boutique, our member knew what she wanted to do. Working in collaboration with Libby Wick of Libby Montana Bar & Grill (who was more than willing to hang decorated bras from the restaurant’s ceiling), in 2009 the Best Bra Contest made its debut!
Friends, neighbors, and everyone who entered Libby Montana were invited to decorate a bra, enter it in the contest, and see it hang from the rafters of the restaurant during the month of October. The same people were invited to join us at the end of October for an evening of voting, playing games, purchasing raffle tickets, and enjoying food and beverages.
Breast cancer patient and survivors were recruited as our official judges. People in attendance that night could vote for their favorite bra. Ballots were cast for the “Best Bra” and a “People’s Choice Award” and attendees left with fabulous raffle prizes.
The recipients of funds raised at the Best Bra Contest have varied over the years as healthcare and government funded programs have changed. Funds have been donated to organizations that provide free mammograms, to a friend of the contest who was participating in a Susan G. Komen three-day walk, to individuals who find themselves unable to pay for basic necessities, among others.
Over the years, numerous individuals and local businesses have donated raffle prizes to the contest. Over the years, the Club members’ friends and neighbors have decorated bras and attended the event to donate money, purchase raffle tickets, and support our event. We are grateful for everyone’s support and hope to see everyone again at the next Best Bra Contest!
