Each year Brown Deer Junior Woman’s Club holds its annual April Spring and September Fall Rummage to benefit Brown Deer Schools and other Community Programs.

Due to restrictions on gathering and to keep everyone safe, both 2020 rummages were cancelled.  As many of us did, club members had been busy spring and fall cleaning their homes and accumulating rummage sale items. The question then became: What do we do with all these things?

Never fear! An alternative idea was suggested and Rummage Sale: 2020 Edition was born.  Why not donate directly to the organizations which provide clothing, household items, etc. to those in need? Various organizations were contacted to find out their specific needs. Club members then offered their homes as a designated drop-off location for one of the organizations. The member then collected the items and, on behalf of the club, personally delivered them.  

The response to the donations and the gratitude expressed by the organizations was overwhelming!

Organizations Served by Rummage Sale: 2020 Edition … 

·        Bottomless Closet – Group helping women enter back into the workforce

·        Habitat for Humanity

·        Milwaukee Rescue Mission (photo above)

·        Mr. Bob’s Under the Bridge - Mobile outreach organization helping the homeless

·        Pathfinders – Group helping runaways, homeless youth and young single parents

·        Soles for Jesus – Group which collects shoes and sends to Africa 

·        Items not accepted by any organization were donated to Goodwill.
